ANSWERS

I am returning to the UK, which steps are advisable?

Travel back to the UK on Axa's insurance, once you have settled in get yourself insurance you are happy with. Please let them know that your No Claims certificate will be coming from Axa Germany and can take up to eight weeks.

2.

The insurance company/ broker will usually issue you a cover note, rather than the original policy document.

3.

Use this document to register/ import your vehicle at your local Driver & Vehicle Licensing Office (DVLO).

4.

Take a copy of this document and send or fax it together with your green card, requesting a
No Claims certificates & refund (if any), to one of our offices.

5.

It is imperative that this is done as soon as possible, as Axa will not release your No Claims certificate or refund until they have received the correct documentation to cancel the policy.

6.

If you do not intend to insure you vehicle on return to the UK a bill of sale or a copy of the de- registration certificate from BFG can also be used to cancel your insurance.

7.

Finally, the cancellation of your Axa insurance will be back- dated to the date stated on the documentation provided... however a No Claims certificate will not be released, if there are any arrears on that policy!

How do I cancel my insurance policy?
To cancel your motor insurance policy, please send us one of the following:
1. A copy of the De-registration certificate (BFG- FORM 272 or the de-reg from the German 'Strassenverkehrsamt')
2. A copy of your new insurance schedule stating the make & model and/or chassis number-
only valid when leaving Germany!
3. A copy of the abroad re- registration certificate(UK- FORM V5C)

6. A scrap certificate(will be issued on disposal of vehicle)
I have fully comprehensive insurance, does that mean I am insured to drive other peoples vehicles?

Unfortunately not!Your German car insurer would be forced to cover the liabilty aspect at first instance, however would make use of their recourse right at a later stage.

If cover is required, the policy holder of the insured vehicle must contact their insurance company for further advice.

I am insured with Axa UK for my car but on phoning them, they advised me that they could not insure me when I go to Germany.
How can this be, as you deal with Axa?

Axa is one of the biggest insurance companies worldwide and has more than 50 million customers. To cover all five continents, it has placed agencies and independant branches in more than 60 countries. Axa UK and Axa Germany are seperate companies and therefore have different Rules & Regulations. In your case, Axa UK are not authorized to insure NATO personnel, who register their vehicles with British Forces Germany.

When do I get my next year's No Claim Discount?

Axa A.G. is a German insurance company, based on German insurance laws. With our motor insurance you will receive an extra year discount, everytime you pass a January. However, if the inception date of your policy is after 1st July and you have zero No Claims Discount, but have held a driving licence for more than three years, you will gain one year discount on the comprehensive part of your insurance- NOT ON THE LIABILITY SECTION. In this case, you will have to pass two Januarys to gain one full year!

Do Culpeck insure NATO personnel living in the Netherlands? Is it under the same conditions as for Germany? Is this the same for motorbikes and cars?

We can arrange motor insurance, breakdown & legal cover for any vehicle via
an alternative German insurance company for all NATO personnel living in the Netherlands with a BFPO or NATO address only!
The conditions are exactly the same as If you were situated in Germany!
You will only ever have to seek Dutch insurance, if the risk to be covered is registered by the Dutch authorities e.g. house contents insurance for a property within the Dutch community.

When does a No Claims Bonus certificate expire?

A No Claims Bonus certificate expires seven years after it's cancellation date.

My insurance runs out on 22nd January and I am being posted to Germany mid May. Can I take out an annual insurance policy with you that will cover both locations?

No, unfortunately not. The BFG regulations state that the vehicle needs to be registered within one month after the inception of a BFG/NATO policy.

Who covers me when I am driving a hire-car?

Simple question- simple answer!
The rental car company's insurance. Beware though- always check the excesses before signing a contract!

Can anyone drive my car?

Only if you have specifically asked for an Open Driver policy. Otherwise just the people named on the policy are covered to drive your car!

I need to find out more about my Axa motor insurance cover. Can you help?

We sure can!
Please use the following link, which will take you to our download page. Here you will find three different Axa Terms & Conditions. Please choose the one matching the inception date of your contract. This document is in both English and German. >>>click here<<<

Will this car insurance cover me for visits to the UK for holidays?

Insurance is offered for the whole of Europe, using a Green Card. The cover abroad is exactly the same as if you were here in BFG. The duration is limited to the period your green card states.

Do I need to fit winter tyres?

There are no rules or regulations with any German insurance company that can force an insured to fit winter tyres! In the event of an incident your insurer will never refuse to settle your claim due to not fixing the appropriate rubber.

However the German legislator has decreed that starting 1st May 2006 vehicles have to be equipped with suitable tyres depending on the meteorological conditions. This simply means that in the event of snow
and/ or ice, so called winter- or all-season tyres have to be fitted. Theses can be identified by the ‘M+S’ or snowflake symbol- stamped on on the side of every tyre. Because the new rule does not specifically dictate winter tyres, motorists in areas without regular onsets of winter can travel using other kinds or rubber, but with sufficient tread of course. However, should it surprisingly snow and/or be icy the motorists will have to abandon their vehicles if they do not want to take the risk of being penalized! Anyone who decides to continue their journey- when caught- will be fine 20€ on the spot. Worse even if you are become a hindrance (break down, accident, situational traffic hold-up). In this case you will be fine 40€ and in addition will receive a one point penalty on your driving licence!

A piece of advice:

For better grip and road safety, winter tyres should be fitted when driving in certain areas where the temperatures often fall below seven degrees Celsius.

Do you know what BFG VLO rules & regulations I need to comply with registering my vehicle?

The vehicle registration process in BFG is as follows: >>>click here<<<

I have had an accident and am claiming on my insurance for my new bumper. No one else is involved. When will this affect my No Claims Discount- I have 3 years, non protected entitlement.

German insurance companies calculate the premiums by splitting their cover into 3 separate categories.

Third Party
Partial Risk
or Fully Comprehensive

In this case, as no one is involved the claim will only affect the comprehensive part of the insurance. On renewal he/she will lose two years entitlement and evidently will only have an premium increase (30%) on the comprehensive part!

I have had an accident with my car, how will this affect my No Claims Discount?
Is there some kind of guideline?

If an insurance contract is not considered accident-free in accordance with the tariff regulations, it will be downgraded (this does not apply to contracts with protected NCD) in the calendar year following the claim notification or in the case that damage has been reported and the relevant claim settlement is paid in the following calendar year, then this implies that the insurance contract is not considered to be accident free for the year in which the claim settlement was paid or a reserve fund set up.

The amount of years your No Claims will be affected by can be read from the tables below.

Do you cover house contents insurance in Germany for BFPO addresses?

Yes, we have two different kinds of cover.

If you wish to have the classic English All Risks- House Hold & Kit Insurance including
Accidental Damage, Transit, Liability, etc... then we can offer the English ARMY PLAN (not just for Army, but all affiliated associations). Insurance premiums are calculated on the number of bedrooms you have.

However, if you feel that you should feel comfortable with the main aspects of insurance, these being fire, theft, burst water pipes, storm and any other natural forces, then we have a much more affordable German option. Insurance premiums are calculated on the total estimated value of your contents in combination with your German postcode.

I cannot reach Culpeck via the UK Freephone number, why?

Should you be using a different landline provider than the above-mentioned or try to reach us using the Orange mobile phone network we are sorry to say that this will not work until contractual agreements have be made between Dt. Telekom and these companies.
